Tepee is the exact copy of tent which was used by Indians as a dwelling throughout the year. Advantages of the tent are obvious. First of all, itis flexibility, easy maintance, big inner space, ensuring hot and draught in winter and at the same time refreshing shade in summer. The construction of the tent makes the circulation of air quite possible.

Tents are made in several sizes, thus designed for different purposes. Generaly, the height of tent corresponds with the diameter of base.

The first that you may have noticed are the unusual measurements of the tents. The reason is simple. The size of the tent is adapted to the measurements of the fabrics of which they are made. Thanks to this the amount of waste (unused cuttings of the fabric) is lower. The result is quite logical. The least waste there is, the more effectively the material is used and the cheapest is the production.

These tents can then be cheaper without reducing the quality of the product.

The Hat (Cap)
The hat is a round bulging cover, having about 1,5 m in diameter, which covers the top of the construction (pole framework) and prevents water from running down the poles to the inside of the tent during heavy rains.

The hat is braced with hazel tree rods and placed onto the tops of the poles; three ropes, fastened to the bottom parts of poles, secure the hat in position. Some books denounce the hats as "not used much by the Indians" and "unsightly". Nevertheless, the hats proved to be utmost practical, especially when used on summer camps for children.

Lining is an essential part of tepee. This strip of cloth, hanging at the height of 180cm inside the tent and spanning the whole circumference of the tent, has a few functions.

It makes a double wall through which air can flow. This makes a chimney efect which helps smoke from fire to get easily out of tent. Part of the lining is placed on the ground to enable air isolation at the bottom part of tepee. Lining stays dry even in rainy days, partly covers the supporting poles of skeleton and this makes interior of tent quite a cosy place.

The poles of this system are not divided by a straight cut but crosswise. Even though it is thought that this system ensures a better fixity of the joints and that the construction of the tepee should be then more stabile we can find also a certain disadvantage. The parts of the construction can´t be interchanged and you always have to find both halves of the same pole while constructing. If you have pole 8A you have to find the part 8B. Even though the poles are numbered for example the tepee 7m has 17 poles that means 34 parts.

Tepee poles divided

NEW LINE - Light tent poles for tepee 3 - 7m.
Alternative system of pole division. The poles of the tepee are a workpiece of whitewood of 5 cm diameter, the top end of 1,5 m length is roughly tooled to a 3 cm diameter. The joint is a thin-sided iron surface treated by polyester in sand color. The main advantage of this system is his variability: the poles can also be connected incidentally. You can use any combination of the parts A+B.

Both systems are either supported or disliked. The choice only depends on your consideration.
